GIS solutions can be complicated. Handling region statistics and extracting its right value may be hard, regularly requiring a GIS professional to get the task achieved. To cope with this problem, the Portuguese startup Map idea permits companies to carry out area analytics to assist higher commercial enterprise choices without the want for GIS know-how. “Although there was a ‘geospatial revolution,’ putting maps in our pockets, in each pc and app — from Google maps to Uber, within the commercial enterprise context, still many agencies don’t take advantage of the strength of region analytics. Our process is to help them take that advantage,” says Miguel Marques, founder and CEO of Mapidea.
We offer a Cloud-based, totally analytical platform that customers can start exploring from day one, almost without schooling. Our customers come from one-of-a-kind geographies and sectors, with one element in common: they perceive the value of geography for their enterprise. Our clients consist of Domino’s Pizza, Vodafone, BP, Sandoz (Novartis) and Coca Cola,” Marques.
When the startup determined to head for funding, it already had the first model of the product and paying clients. “We wanted to assist in talking our answer and putting into effect the income and advertising strategy. It is a totally aggressive market and, at the same time, clients are not absolutely aware of what they could certainly extract from those kinds of solutions. We had the support of Startup Lisboa and had been funded with the aid of Portugal Ventures, a chief mission capital firm in Portugal,” the CEO says, adding that theirs is a “SaaS business enterprise that sells annual subscriptions.
The startup started promoting the solution in 2015, and in view that then it has grown consistently. “A large part of our group worked together in the biggest IT company in Portugal, in the GIS and enterprise intelligence regions. We had a clean notion that something like what we have would generate hobby among clients from our previous work. The pinnacle mission is fighting the lack of information concerning vicinity technology: for some clients, what we do is ‘like Google maps.’ Another mission is pricing: a way to explain the cost of an option to organizations which have in no way used something like this earlier than,” says Marques.
To triumph over these demanding situations, the enterprise does loads of evidence of principles. Its employees do not use PowerPoint for patron displays, and as an alternative, give live demos with use instances for the particular industry of the potential patron. “If we do the first component is right, half of the second part is taken care of. When we show a capacity client that they could do the positive evaluation in mins, without the want of an expert, the value is proved,” explains Marques.
According to the founder-CEO, it’s miles crucial for younger startups to verify that their concept fits inside the marketplace. “It can be a splendid concept, but does it have a marketplace, or is it disruptive enough to create one? Secondly, could you not do it by myself? Gather a fantastic crew and mix competencies. If a person is fantastic at coding, likely he’ll not be extremely good at design. And finally, put together yourself for hard instances, but in no way, neglect to have a laugh inside the manner,” he says.
